The Unpredictability of Satchel Compton

When Satchel Compton began his career at the age of 17 with a leading role in a mediocre film (Running With Scissors has not gained any cult following over the years, this keeping his status as a critical mess), he had managed to take on roles in the indie circuit. Establishing himself as a familiar face and talent in the subgenre was a clever move from this inexperienced young man, and there were promising things adding up to his resume through the years. Talent certainly helped, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that nepotism was also in the card whereas the gay actor likes to admit it or not, the various links and relationships due to his family's presence in the industry gave him roles he certainly wouldn't have even been given an audition for.

But without any warning Compton took a 180° degree in the promising direction he was taking, as he starred in the questionable horror anthology that was American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy, the director who had given the first on screen opportunity to Compton a couple of years ago. Was it a favor from his part to his "mentor"? While the FX series became a phenomenon on his first year, the material was not anything any deserving and respected actor would like to play with. And yet, Compton embarked for a 4 years adventure within stories more ridiculous than the next.

There was a certain disappointment (perhaps it can be read through the lines) to see this young and promising actor fall so deep into a career killer move. When certain actors chose to move on, he decided to stay. The following years weren't an improvement either, when Compton hopped onto the blockbuster crisis with reboots of the X-Men franchise and a questionable adaptation of Warcraft, a RPG game that deserves its spot in two decades ago.

I might be a bit harsh, considering his work is mostly composed of indie productions and films d'auteurs (Youth remains a beautiful masterpiece of cinema), with fantastic projects recently announced. But the unpredictability of the actor makes it impossible for this film enthusiast to be plenty satisfied by the announcement of his addition to The Bell Jar project. Even I have my doubt about the A.A. Milne biopic as we all know of these projects tend to go and feel like a dreading experience and emotional abuse.

His directorial debut is giving me faith, slightly, but I will always remain doubtful and in mourning of a promising career that could have made him join the club of Actors of Legend.

Satchel Compton spotted at Paris airport

Satchel Compton is taking advantage of his deserved break.

The 28 year old was spotted by fans waiting for a plane at Paris International airport on Friday (December 30). Going solo, the actor was in the French capital to celebrate Christmas with the entire Levin-Compton family, who documented their holidays on instagram.

It seemed that the actor was heading out to Norway, a sure place to keep away from the media frenzy that has been linked to his name in the past couple of days.

Once New Year strikes, the new director is set to resume production on his directorial debut Wildlife in Oklahoma.

Satchel Compton Joins Dakota Fanning in Kirsten Dunst’s ‘Bell Jar’

Satchel Compton has been announced as the new addition to Kirsten Dunst's adaptation of Bell Jar.

The script written by Dunst and Nellie Kim is an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's famous novel of the same name. The book follows character Esther Greenwood who takes an internship at a magazine in New York City, and begins to suffer a mental breakdown when she returns home to Boston. The novel is the only book ever published by Plath, who committed suicide in 1963.

Fanning is set to play the title character of Esther Greenwood. Compton will portray Lennie Shepherd.

The film, which will be Dunst's directorial debut, is set to start production next Spring.
